We are very excited to welcome our second veteran to the family. DJ and his dog T'Challa joined our mission in February of this year, along with the unwavering support of his mom, Connie!

About DJ

DJ is a distinguished US Navy Veteran, having dedicated over 14 years of his life to serving his country with honor and integrity. Throughout his extensive military career, he has been deployed in various capacities, demonstrating exceptional skills and leadership in high-pressure situations. His commitment to duty and excellence has not gone unnoticed, as he has been the recipient of numerous medals and awards that highlight his achievements and contributions to the Navy. These accolades not only reflect his personal dedication but also the respect he has earned from his peers and superiors alike. DJ's experiences have shaped him into a resilient individual, equipped with a unique perspective on teamwork, discipline, and the importance of service to others. His time in the Navy has instilled in him a profound sense of pride and a deep understanding of the sacrifices made by military personnel, further motivating him to continue contributing to his community even after his retirement from active duty.

DJ's Journey with PTSD Training

DJ has been through this PTSD training process previously with his loyal companion Gunner, who served and honored him for almost a decade. It was with immense sadness that we learned of Gunner's passing this February.

The Impact of Gunner

Gunner was an invaluable part of DJ's life, providing support and companionship throughout their time together. His loss left a significant void, but it also presented an opportunity to help DJ as a veteran in need.

New Beginnings

DJ was approved for the PTSD training the same day he submitted his application, marking the beginning of his journey for a new lifelong battle buddy.

Finding T'Challa

DJ and Connie found a black standard poodle and made the trek to Colorado to meet and possibly bring home a new companion. It was meant to be as the 2 bonded immediately. DJ and his new companion T'Challa made the journey back to South Dakota to start their PTSD training with the amazingly talented Shawna at Happy Tails K-9 Training. Thus Embarking on a new chapter in DJ's life as he continues to navigate his journey with the support of a new companion.
